Caragh Lake - 3rd Trial of 2012

(September 01, 2012)

Our 3rd Trial was held on Caragh Lake on lst September – a beautiful venue in Co Kerry – full of wild brownies, seatrout and salmon.  12 women made the trip from all over Ireland – the long drive for many made easier by looking forward to their fishing.

It was fairly windy and a mixture of sun, cloud and rain - typical Irish weather!  It was lovely to welcome Carmel Kelly and Pat Byrne to their first trial this year and catch up on news.

We also tested out the B&Bs we are using for the 2013 International on Caragh. The food, welcome and entertainment in the Olde Glenbeigh Hotel was superb.  The Kerry Ocean Lodge has also got excellent food and facilties, power showers and wifi and Eugene gave us a very warm welcome. Some members stayed up until the small hours in the Olde Glenbeigh joining in the great musical entertainment in the bar, courtesy of Mikey and friends. There were a few tired eyes the next day on the shore.

Top angler was Anne McWilliams with 20 fish measuring 499 cms, 2nd was Dorrie Gibbons with 14 measuring 363, 3rd was Julie Gerry with 14 for 336.

Many thanks to Mike O'Shea for all his arrangements and to all the boatmen for their expert advice and help during the day.

Top Boatman was Billy O'Dea who boated Julie McGeever and Anne McWilliams. He was kept busy as they caught 28 measurable trout totalling 700 cms (and many others released) during their day together.

All trout were safely released into Caragh Lake to fight another day.
